Philippine security forces found bloodstains at the coastal home where suspected Muslim militants barged in and dragged an Australian man away in the latest of a rash of abductions in the restive south, officials said Tuesday.

Police said Warren Richard Rodwell, 53, may have been injured when at least half a dozen gunmen took him away late Monday in a sparsely populated village with no guards less than 2 miles (3 kilometers) from the shore in Ipil town in Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Dengue Fever

The death toll from dengue fever in the Philippines has reached 724 since the start of the year, the Department of Health said Thursday.

The deaths, recorded from January 1 to October 30, were up nearly 50 per cent from 485 fatalities in the same period last year.

The health department also recorded a total of 119,789 cases of dengue infections, an increase of more than 140 per cent from 49,319 a year ago.

Dr Lyndon Leesuy, manager of the department's National Dengue Control Program, urged local officials to step up efforts to inform residents in their communities about how to avoid getting dengue.

'We cannot go to your houses to eliminate the breeding sites of mosquitoes or to cover your water containers where mosquitoes can breed,' he said. 'We need the support of those in communities.'

Dengue is an infectious tropical fever causing acute pain in the joints. Symptoms include loss of appetite, general weakness, nausea and vomiting.

13 A Visa

Your first year of 13a visa is probationary. You can apply to have your probationary condition removed after you have successfully completed your first year of stay in the Philippines and still together with your spouse. The Malaysian police has sent a special team to identify three militants killed by Philippine Air Force in a raid, Malaysian Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Friday.

Hishammuddin said in a statement that Malaysia would like to confirm if the militants killed on Thursday were Malaysian Zulkifli Abdul Hir, a senior leader of the Abu Sayyaf and the Jemaah Islamiyah, as well as two Sabah Darul Islam members in Malaysia's east peninsula, Bacho and Jeknal Adil, who escaped police arrest during an operation in November last year.

"The Malaysian police is liaising with the Philippine National Police to provide DNA samples of Zulkifli's family for confirmation purposes," Hishammuddin said.
