Stray bullets from guns fired at the height of the revelries to welcome the New Year killed 2 people in Pangasinan and Compostela Valley, police said Saturday.
Seventeen-year-old Francisco Corpuz was hit by a stray bullet around past midnight in Barangay Carmen in Rosales, Pangasinan.
The victim was standing in front of their house with his family when the incident occurred.
He was hit in the head.
Corpuz was immediately brought to a hospital in the town but died, according to police.
A stray bullet also claimed the life of a 20-year-old mine worker at the Diwalwal mining area in Barangay Diwata, Monkayo, Compostela Valley, authorities said.
Joran Bat-ongon, a resident of Esperanza in Agusan del Sur, was standing near a window to watch a fireworks display when suddenly he was hit by a bullet in his chest.
He was brought to a hospital but also died.
In Panabo City, Davao, a 6-year-old boy survived after being hit by a stray bullet in the right thigh.
The victim, Xander Gutual, was resting inside his room when he was hit, his relatives said.
 His uncle, Jun Salig, said the bullet pierced the roof of their house.
Gutual was brought to the Davao Regional Hospital (DRH), where he received treatment.
