Bargaining in the Philippines

Bruce Linder has made a good article from his website.

In the Philippines, there are many bargains; you just need to know how and where. The first rule of advice is sending your Filipina wife or girlfriend to go alone. If they see a foreigner, the price might actually go up.

The worst places to ask is in the department stores or the chain mall shops. You might be able to get a small discount, but most store managers to not have the freedom to give any decent discounts.

> Up date from James L

Thank you for your mail and your interest in what I’m doing. I also hope you and all the other members of the group are doing well and fine.
As for me, I know that from my side it was very silent lately, and this mail I write to you from Germany where I was during the last two and a half months.

Many things happen before I left to Germany,
I decided to return to the Phil’s and continue my work there. It’s just further in the mountain where still a lot of children are in great need of help.
Once I’m back in Davao, I sure like to join the meetings again. Meanwhile I greet you and hope you are well and in good health
.

> Jim Smyth

Is our speaker for Wednesday Aug 5th.

You can see from his Bio that Jim has many

neat things to talk about.

Born on a sand hill farm where the prairie begins, in N.W. Indiana. I remember hard labor as a child grew crops, hogs, chickens and egg production.
I preferred driving the tractor in the fields to school. Upon high school graduation I joined the US Army for some excitement, and I did not feel cheated.

After discharge from the military, attended Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University, was licensed by FAA to maintain anything that could fly. Worked for a major airline for a time, and then went into self employment in Design, Installation and Maintenance of Landscapes.

Founded 3rd Disciple Street Rescue in Atlanta, Georgia, a hardcore ministry to the last, lost and least, the hurting, homeless, hopeless and helpless, with a focus on Vietnam Veterans, of whom more are homeless than died in that Conflict. Living on the edge myself and feeling the need for adventure and change, I arrived in the RP one year ago.

> The trip to Agusan

We had an awesome trip to Agusan. 20 of the FOM Team took off stopping for breakfast inTagum. We were greeted with a magnificently presented house on a two hectares block of landscaped outdoor are. We all enjoyed the birds, monkey and the sheep.

Richard and Jessa excelled themselves with the lovely food and wonderful hospitality. The swimming was refreshing too. The day was an absolutely fun time, along with a brilliant opportunity to get to know our fellow FOM members and their partners. Our special thanks toRichard and Jessa. It was superb.

>. The Mexican Breakfast

Thanks to Paul S we are going to enjoy a special Mexican breakfast on the water at Emar Beach on Aug 19th. You don’t want to miss this event. Whether you are a spicy lover, or prefer the plain food, you tastes will be catered for

> Interesting News from Tim W

Hell Ian and thanks for your email here in America. I am presently doing antique shows around the eastern part of the United States here. Things are fairly busy but the sales of such unnecessary things are very very slow at
this time. Still doing okay on the world market selling on eBay and other online venues but that is a costly way to sell at this time. Still out and about doing markets etc. with being inBuffalo, New York these two weeks
ago, upper New York state two weeks ago, this past weekend in Washington D.C. and having other shows already done with in Boston, Maryland etc.

Will be leaving again soon for a large show in Springfield, Ohio while doing a show in Lancaster county, Pa. at the same time (tricky). Hope to return to Davao in the middle of July, and get back to some easy times and easy life there. Wanted to come back earlier but taking care of selling off a few storage areas of items that I left behind from my last trip there. Hopefully all works out soon................Tim Walker

* Look forward to seeing you Tim

> Things to look out for?

* The Quiz that’s coming up in Sept

* Meeting on Aug 19th at Emar Beach
